- Course Purpose: To provide participants with insights into career planning and development and enable participants to develop a career plan for their future.

19 Oct 2019 Saturday Morning 8-12h: Introduction
- Instructor presentation: Various career paths and career periods
- Trends in work, workplace and career/vocation
- Your current jobs/job so far
20 Oct 2019 Sunday Morning 8-12h: Your career plan
- Your career goal
- Career Roadmap and action plan
20 Oct 2019 Sunday Afternoon 13-16h: Your vocational options/assessment
- Holland Vocational Model
- Edgar Schein Career Anchors
- Course Evaluation
The course will be evaluated by the end-course assignment “My Career Plan”
You have to develop a Career Plan. The plan should include and reflect you career progress, especially your current job, your vocational assessment (using the Holland Vocational Model and the Edgar Schein Career Anchors) and your future plan.
Suggested outline:
- Introduction (state the purpose of the plan)
- Career progress
- How you choose your tertiary education
How you choose your first job’
- List and describe the jobs you have had so far
- Assess your current job: What you like and what you do not like
- Your career WSOT: Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats
- Vocational Assessment
Describe the results of your vocation assessment with:
- Holland Vocational Model
- Edgar Schein Career Anchors
- Career goal and objectives
- Career goal: What do you want to achieve by retirement? Who do you want to become by retirement?
- Career objectives for each 5 or 10 year period: salary, education, position etc.
- Action plan
- Detailed career paths/scenarios
- Detailed action plan for each periods
